MBABANE – Moneni Pirates are reportedly preparing another raid in the capital city, this time targeting Mbabane Swallows skilful winger Bongi ‘Karas’ Magagula.
The ‘Sea Robbers’, who only recently prised Coach Selaotse ‘Sly’ Mosala away from Mbabane Highlanders, are understood to be keen on adding the pacey attacker to their squad for the coming season.
A well-placed source within the ‘Buccaneers’ camp say the club views Magagula as an ideal reinforcement for the left flank.
The former Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows player has been a key figure for ‘Birds’ since joining two seasons ago, impressing with his speed, stamina and dribbling. His final ball has occasionally let him down, but he is also noted for his powerful shooting and ability to fill in at left-back when required.
“Moneni Pirates are keenly interested in securing his services if everything falls into place. They believe he can strengthen the attack, particularly on the left wing, which needs reinforcing and has the required competitive experience,” the source alleged.
Meanwhile, Pirates Public Relations Officer (PRO) Meluleki ‘Sluga’ Simelane neither confirmed nor denied the interest. Simelane said the club has set ambitious targets and is looking at high-profile additions, but said no names could yet be revealed.
“We are seeking players who will consistently raise the performance level of the team. You have already seen the investment we have made in the technical team. When the time is right, any announcements will be made through our official channels,” ‘Sluga’ added.
Mosala, appointed last month, has been tasked with delivering trophies and guiding the black-and-white side into continental competition.
Asked about the club’s traditional pre-season camp in Mozambique, he stated that an announcement would be made soon and also hinted at plans that could involve matches against high-profile international opposition.
On another note, Swallows PRO Knowledge ‘Bhambo’ Ngwenya requested not to comment on the fate of individual players. Ngwenya said the club’s leadership would issue a comprehensive statement covering departures, arrivals and the technical staff changes.
Worth noting is that this statement may be to clarify this situation of ‘Karas’ and goalkeeper Sandanezwe Mathabela, neither of whom featured in Friday’s friendly against South Africa’s TS Galaxy, which the visitors lost 2-0.
However, some reports suggest Magagula still has a contract with ‘Umkhonto KaShaka’.
Relating to technical changes, Head Coach Caleb Ngwenya and Physical Trainer, Siza ‘King Pele’ Dlamini have left the team. Swallows are yet to make an official announcement on the departures and who comes in. Reports suggest former Amawele gaffer Mduduzi ‘Sikhalo’ Nxumalo has been appointed as fitness coach, while talks are also said to be ongoing with Ezulwini United’s mentor, Musa Manyatsi.
