MBABANE — Fresh from debuting at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, Hayley Hoy has won the most medals for Eswatini at the ongoing Africa Aquatics Zone IV Championships in Botswana.
The championships began on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, with today, Saturday, September 5, 2026, marking the final day of competition.
Eswatini sent a team of 20 swimmers, guided by two coaches: 2023 Outstanding Coach Welcome Nhlabatsi and Ntokozo Dlamini.
According to results from the first three days shared by Eswatini Swimming Association (ESA) Chief Executive Officer Nozipho Mahlalela, the country managed to win nine medals.
The haul comprises one gold, four silver, and four bronze medals. Hoy claimed 60 percent of the overall medal tally, winning five medals on her own:
Hayley Hoy: 5 medals (1gold, 3 silver, 1 bronze)
Luca Fraser: 2 medals (2 silver)
Tsailin Barbosa: 1 medal (1 bronze)
Damien De Sousa: 1 medal (1 bronze)
Notably, Hoy and Fraser are beneficiaries of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games scholarships. Furthermore, Damien De Sousa is also fresh from competing in this year’s Commonwealth Games.
As the event closes today, local swimmers will be competing in the butterfly, freestyle, and relay events.
