MBABANE – An eye-catching E100 000 prize pot is set to throw down the ultimate challenge for anglers across the region.
The Eswatini Angling Association (EAA) has officially announced the Maguga Cash Challenge, taking place over two days in the period September 26–27 , 2026.
The mouth-watering E100 000 grand prize will go to whichever competitive angler manage to reel in the biggest bass weighing 4.5kg or over.
Should the waters hold back their heavyweight giants, a hefty console prize of E15 000 remains up for grabs for the biggest bass caught under the 4.5kg mark. It is a high-stakes fixture that carries a serious dose of nostalgia and precedent.
Young prodigy Carter McKenzie, who is aged just 11, was crowned the champion of the 2025 edition of the Maguga Mega Bass Competition, walking away with E15 000 after out-fishing a field of seasoned veterans over two gruelling days on the water.
McKenzie raised eyebrows across the angling community when reflecting on how he landed the winning specimen, insisting that no fancy gear or secret tactics were required; just plain patience, solid instincts and a line in the water.
