MBABANE — Fast-rising local musician Sancheziey marked a major career milestone this morning, after making a guest appearance on the popular regional station Ligwalagwala FM.
The talented act sat down with presenter Madumane on the Egunjini Lemculo breakfast show, delivering an open and honest interview that traced his artistic evolution, viral success and future aspirations within the entertainment industry.
Reflecting on the milestone, Sancheziey shared that securing a spot on the esteemed platform has been a lifelong ambition nurtured by watching other creatives land interviews on the station. “For the longest time being invite for an interview at Ligwalagwala FM has been my dream,“ he said. The conversation quickly pivoted to the origins of his moniker and his steady growth as a prominent voice in the local music scene.
The breakthrough moment of his career undoubtedly centers on his viral hit song, ‘Siyabonga Gogo’. Sancheziey noted that the track gained massive momentum after a video of the song was shared by Her Royal Highness Princess Sikhanyiso, a push that was further amplified by his standout performance of the track at the UNESWA Culture Day. This growing regional footprint forms part of a broader drive to take Eswatini music to the world.
When asked to compare the domestic music industry to neighbouring South Africa, Sancheziey offered an honest assessment, describing the local industry as still growing. He pointed out that Afro-Pop is currently making the most significant waves across borders that Hip Hop, citing the stellar music of Young Zesh as a prime example.
Looking ahead at potential collaborations, Sancheziey revealed a unique wishlist that bridges traditional heritage and contemporary sounds. Locally, he expressed a strong desire to work with Tsabedze, noting that while not a traditional recording artist in the conventional sense, Tsabedze delivers the powerful vocal styles traditionally performed by princesses during the Umhlanga Ceremony just like the recent hit used by Princess Sakhizwe with the lyrics ‘Ohmmm ohmmmmm ilukhuni lendzaba’. Across the border in South Africa, he has his sights set on collaborating heavyweights Sjava, Shenge and Lwah Ndlunkulu.
Closing out the morning session, Sancheziey addressed the state of domestic creative support, affirming that artists are indeed backed in Eswatini. He specifically highlighted the commendable work and continuous efforts driven by the Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture in uplifting local talent.
