MBABANE – In an inspiring display of cross-border cultural exchange, the stage was set for a powerful celebration of Choral excellence.
Eswatini’s own Vulamasango School Choir proudly hosted South Africa’s Edendale Technical High School Choir for a joint concert titled ‘Nations in One Voice.’ The event took place on September 26, 2026 at St Theresa’s High School. This musical encounter was anchored in a shared theme of friendship, culture and artistic excellence. The collaboration was sparked when Edendale Technical High School expressed a keen interest in travelling to Eswatini to stage a joint musical showcase with Vulamsango. Recognising a kindred spirit in their journey to Choral mastery, Vulamasango warmly accepted, confirmed Vulamasango conductor Jockonias Mandlazi. Driven by a mutual passion for vocal harmony and high performance standards, the partnership offers young choristers a vital platform: A bigger stage, a wider audience and immersive exposure to diverse musical styles and regional traditions. During the concert, they performed both African and Western pieces, each separately exchanging their artistic abilities. Towards the end of the concert, the two choirs came together on stage to perform a song to symbolise unity. The Vulamasango High School Choir has established a stellar reputation as a formidable powerhouse in Eswatini’s competitive Choral music scene. Under the expert baton and leadership of conductor Jochonias Mandlazi, the choir has consistently risen through the ranks to claim top honours on national stages, most notably in the prestigious EswatiniBank Schools Choral Music Competition often titled as the ‘Champ of Champs’. They recently shared the stage with Bokamoso Arts Institute during a concert where they also brought their flair to the stage.
