Born and raised in Ezulwini, where she currently resides at Somnjalose, Gospel music artist Tanele Mnisi emerged from a traditional family of five. Her upbringing, faith and values played an integral role in shaping her personal identity. Beyond her musical endeavours, Mnisi is a professional who values discipline, personal growth and purpose.
Her musical journey began during her primary school years when she gave her life to Christ and joined the Scripture Union choir. That foundational experience ignited her passion for singing and paved the way for her involvement in praise and worship teams.
“I was blessed to have a praise and worship leader who was also a musician and took the time to guide me, develop my vocal skills and help me understand the importance of using music as a tool to share the Gospel,” she recalled. Her spiritual and musical development was further nurtured at Jesus Calls Worship Centre. Additionally, Mnisi serves as a member of the Mandvulo Choir, ministering before Their Majesties during the official opening and closing ceremonies of the year.

STEPPING INTO SOLO MINISTRY
Despite her extensive background in group worship, stepping out as a solo recording artist was never part of her original ambition.
“Honestly, I never imagined that I would one day step out as a solo Gospel artist,” Mnisi admitted. “My fulfilment came from serving God and seeing His name glorified through ministering in praise and worship teams. I was content serving in that capacity and becoming a solo artist was never something I had planned for myself.” However, a profound personal conviction eventually led her to step beyond her comfort zone. Overcoming initial apprehension, she began by recording four songs as a step of faith.
Today, her primary focus remains centred on growing her calling while managing her professional responsibilities. A major milestone in her career is the release of her single, ‘#Esihlalweni’, recorded live at Jesus Calls Worship Centre under the theme ‘Touching the Hem of His Garment’.
“This project is very special to me because it captures a moment of worship and carries a message that I pray will reach hearts and draw people closer to God,” she explained.
Supporters can anticipate two additional singles before the release of her full-length album.

BALANCING ARTISTRY AND AUTHENTICITY
For Mnisi, delivering an authentic message of faith forms the foundation of her creative process. Her composition ‘Ngiyavuma’ originated as a personal prayer for spiritual surrender amid world uncertainty.
“For me, gospel music begins with the message and the heart behind it,” she stated. “Ngiyavuma’ started as a personal call to repentance and a desire to live a life of complete surrender to God.”
She embraces both contemporary Gospel and traditional vernacular compositions, viewing artistic expression and spiritual authenticity as complementary elements designed to glorify God.
Addressing the local music landscape, Mnisi noted that navigating the industry requires character, professionalism and strategic planning beyond initial talent.
“Breaking into the local Gospel industry is not always easy, especially for an artist who was born and raised in Eswatini,” she observed. “One of the challenges I have observed is that we can put a lot of effort into creating good music, but fail to invest sufficiently in proper marketing and promotional strategies.”
Collaborative efforts and mutual support among industry peers have also been pivotal to her development, offering strength during difficult periods, including the loss of a close friend and ministry partner just a month prior to the release of ‘#Esihlalweni’.

LIFE BEYOND THE STAGE
When away from public ministry, Mnisi balances a nine to five corporate career alongside her legal studies. To recharge after intense sessions, she enjoys culinary pursuits, outdoor activities and quiet personal time.
“As for my personality, I would describe myself as a very bad introvert!” she shared. “I enjoy my own space and can be quite reserved, so people may not always get to see that side of me.”
She attributes her progress to divine grace, alongside the steadfast support of her management team, Rhythmic Production, her church, family and supporters.
Offering advice to young Swati women pursuing their aspirations, Mnisi emphasised perseverance despite uncertainty.
“My message to young Swati women is simple: Do it afraid. Do not wait until you feel completely ready, until everything is perfect, or until everyone believes in you,” she encouraged. “Sometimes, you have to take that first step while you are still afraid and trust God to guide you along the way.”
