MBABANE – There is reportedly a mystery surrounding the unpaid 2024/25 CAF Champions League participation incentive for capital city giants, Mbabane Swallows.

The Dr Patrice Motsepe-led Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced last August that inter-club competitions envoys were to receive about E900 000 (US$50 000).

Nsingizini Hotspurs, who will compete in the Champions League this season, participated in the CAF Confederation Cup last season.

However, the latest reports suggest that the continental mother body has made payments of these incentives for the previous season, but no cent has yet arrived in the ‘Birds’ nest, at least according to the team.

The city giants, who crashed out in the second preliminary rounds after suffering an 8-0 hammering, on aggregate by South Africa’s (SA) giants Mamelodi Sundowns in the 2024/25 CAF Champions League, have stated that they are still awaiting the payment.

However, according to sources privy to the information, it alleged that there are issues with the accounts submitted by the team.

“It’s not understandable how they could be the only team on the continent not to have received their money. The issue is with the accounts submitted by the team,” the source said.

On the other hand, Umkhonto KaShaka Public Relations Officer (PRO) Knowledge ‘Bhambo’ Ngwenya dismissed any suggestions that they had received the money in question.

“Beautiful ‘Birds’, we take this time to set the record straight, that Mbabane Swallows FC has still not received the CAF Champions League participation fee.

More details in today’s paper.
