MANZINI – A tale of two cities unfolded at Mavuso Sports Centre.

Mbabane Swallows finally rediscovered their winning touch after six winless outings, while Manzini Wanderers’ struggles deepened as they remained rooted to the bottom of the log after a ‘Super Sunday’ MTN Premier League clash at Mavuso Sports Centre yesterday. Wanderers are now five matches without a victory, their last win came on November 13 against Ubombo Sugar.

The result lifted Swallows to eighth place on the log with 15 points, while Wanderers stayed at the bottom with just six points.

The victory carried deep emotional significance for Swallows, who dedicated the win to their late supporter Muzi ‘Bondas’ Simelane, who was shot dead on Thursday. A moment of silence was observed before kick-off in his honour.

Swallows also continued their dominance in this fixture, with Wanderers’ last victory over the Birds dating back to December 18, 2020, when the ‘Weslians’ won 2–1.

After the final whistle, Swallows supporters broke into a heartfelt chant of ‘Bondas, myekele aphumule’ — loosely translated as ‘let Bondas rest in peace’ — paying tribute to the fallen super fan in an emotional moment inside the stadium.

The match began at a lively pace. Swallows’ Nhlanhla Ngwenya narrowly missed the target inside the opening five minutes, his effort drifting inches wide.

Manzini Wanderers almost took the lead in the 10th minute when Kusa Gwebu struck a fierce volley that sailed just over the crossbar.
