MBABANE – Manzini Wanderers Captain Mlamuli ‘Mlaba’ Nkambule is reportedly being linked with a sensational return to his former club, Mbabane Highlanders.
The speculation emerged from sources close to Manzini Wanderers, who were pressed for information regarding potential incoming or outgoing players ahead of the second transfer window, which opens on January 8, 2026. “The second window period will be a busy one for the team; the captain is one of the key players likely to depart,” the source revealed. “However, his fate is still under discussion at a managerial level. It will be a case of wait-and-see, as there has been interest shown by his former club.”
When contacted for comment, Manzini Wanderers Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mongi Simelane, would not confirm the interest from Mbabane Highlanders, but shared that the club anticipates a number of high-profile player movements.
“I cannot say for sure that Mbabane Highlanders have an interest in ‘Mlaba’ as I have not heard anything. But we have a few players that will join us, and others that will exit in January,” Simelane stated. The player himself was also reached for comment and questioned about the veracity of the claims that he is poised to return to the ‘Bull’s Kraal’.
“Can I not speak about Mbabane Highlanders at the moment; it will be discussed in due course,” Nkambule said yesterday. Further lending weight to the reports, another impeccable source close to the player disclosed that the Manzini Wanderers skipper has already been approached by his former team, with the aim of luring him back to the ‘Bull’s kraal’ during the upcoming window.
Nkambule is a familiar figure at Mbabane Highlanders, having previously played for the side during their successful run to win the then SwaziTelecom Charity Cup. The former Denver Sundowns player departed Highlanders at the end of the 2021/22 season after the two parties failed to agree on a contractual extension.
