MBABANE – Festive fever still in the air!

Mbabane East Member of Parliament (MP) Welcome ‘Wex’ Dlamini has presented refereeing kits and two soccer balls worth over E5 000 to the Mbabane Regional Football League.

The kit presentation, which was held at the iconic Msunduza Sports Ground yesterday, was attended by the Hhohho Regional Football Association (HRFA) Head of Development Ntokozo Tsela and Mbabane League Competitions Committee (CC) Chairman Themba ‘Cheese’ Motsa as well as the referees.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony, MP Dlamini revealed that he was approached by the Mbabane Regional  Football League to help them with kits for the referees.

“I was touched that the referees were a laughing  stock on social media platforms after one of them was spotted officiating without proper gear,” Dlamini said.

The legislator said referees are the image of any league and they should always be presentable and hoped that the kits will go a long way towards restoring their dignity.

“The 10-set refereeing kit will help uplift the standard of officiating in Mbabane. It is therefore a pleasure that the consignment is valued at over E5 000 including the match-day soccer balls,” he said.

It is worth noting that Dlamini also sponsored the ongoing Mbabane East Social Festive tournament to the value of E20 000.

Meanwhile, Tsela, speaking on behalf of the HRFA, thanked the MP for the kind gesture of presenting them with the equipment.

“This will go a long way in helping the referees look presentable,” Tsela said. He said the equipment comes at a time when they have deployed new referees for the league, as they have been facing challenges in this department.

“We are happy that both the Mbabane MPs are working together in promoting our football,” he said.

Tsela was referring to Mbabane West MP Jane Simelane, who is also helping to promote the sport in Mbabane.

“We are one in Mbabane and these are our MPs,” he added.

On the other hand, Tsela encouraged referees to attend courses as they will be rolling out a refresher course in February.

“The time is over for uneducated referees in our leagues,” he said.
