MBABANE – All roads lead to the Lubombo waters this weekend, as the Sandriver Bass Fishing Fundraising Competition gets underway.
The events looks to cast a vital financial lifeline to local anglers targeting international glory, particularly at the upcoming World Championships.
The two-day angling spectacle is set to commence bright and early on Saturday at 6am, running right through to around midday on Sunday.
Beyond the thrill of the catch, the primary beneficiary of the showpiece is the Eswatini Angling Association (EAA), with proceeds earmarked to support national representatives as they prepare to fly the flag on the global stage.
Registration is pitched at E600 per angler, with a strategic 70/30 split guaranteed to keep the stakes high: At least 70 per cent of total entry fees will go straight into the prize money pot for the top three biggest catches, while the remaining 30 per cent goes directly to the EAA fundraising pool.
Organisers have noted that as participation grows, so does the purse, encouraging anglers to bring along fellow enthusiasts.
Adding further excitement to the schedule, a fun barbel competition will run alongside the main event at an entry fee of E100, while a dedicated boat auction is slated for Saturday morning.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, one of the organisers, Chad Kelly, expressed deep gratitude to key stakeholders and commercial partners for backing the initiative and sanctioning the showcase.
“We are excited and look forward to this event. We thank sponsors,” Kelly stated, underlining the vital role played by corporate allies in sanctioning the gathering and making international trips a reality for the country’s top talent.
For those planning an overnight stay, self-catering camping and accommodation facilities are available directly through the Mananga Country Club (+268 2313 4018 / mclreception@res.co.sz). Anglers looking to secure their spot or gather further details can contact Wimpie (7802 4294) or Kelly (7871 3265).
