… write, perform and record your voice live

MBABANE – United States-based poet, recording artist and producer Tarik ‘Konshens The MC’ Davis is set to bring his creative expertise to Eswatini on Thursday.

Davis will lead an immersive creative writing and spoken-word workshop aimed at helping participants explore their voices through art.

The workshop, titled ‘Voices of a Nation’, will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2026, from 10 am to 1 pm, at the American Corner Manzini, located at the National Library. The visiting US artist and speaker will serve as both host and creative facilitator for the workshop, which will form part of activities commemorating US Constitution Day.

According to the US Embassy in Eswatini, the workshop is designed for participants interested in exploring their creative voices while also discovering the possibilities offered by the American Corner Manzini recording studio. “Voices of a Nation’ is an immersive creative writing experience that invites participants to explore national identity through observation, memory, emotion and imagination,” read their social media post.

The programme will also move beyond writing, with participants expected to take part in a spoken-word studio recording session facilitated by Konshens The MC on the same day. The embassy encouraged participants to come prepared to express themselves, experiment creatively and enjoy the recording experience. The workshop carries additional significance as it coincides with US Constitution Day, which is observed on September 17.

The US Embassy said the Constitution and Bill of Rights have played an important role in shaping the United States, particularly in protecting freedoms such as freedom of speech. “This U.S. Constitution Day, September 17, we celebrate Freedom of Speech and every citizen’s role in making their voice heard!” the embassy said. Through the ‘Voices of a Nation workshop, participants will therefore be given an opportunity to reflect on how individual experiences, memories and perspectives can contribute to broader conversations about identity and society.

For Konshens The MC, the workshop builds on a career centred on using music, poetry and education to inspire people and create spaces for creative expression. The Washington, D.C.-based creative is an international hip-hop artist, poet, songwriter, Global Arts Educator, youth advocate and inspirational speaker.
