NHLANGANO – Eswatini will face a significant temperature drop from tomorrow until Wednesday as a cold front moves in, bringing Mbabane down to 11°C and Big Bend to 17°C.
According to Meteorologist Sydney Lukhele at the Eswatini Meteorological Service, the thunderstorms experienced across parts of the country signal the movement of the cold front.
Lukhele explained that the system is leaving behind a high-pressure ridge, which will cause cold air originating from the south to enter the country, resulting in a sharp decline in overall temperatures.
The atmospheric shift begins today, where conditions across the nation will be cloudy and cold, although remaining mild in the Lowveld region. Light rain and fog are expected in localised places throughout the day.
Temperatures in Mbabane are forecast to range between a minimum of 11 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 13 degrees Celsius, while Mankayane will record between 12 and 14 degrees Celsius.
Manzini is expected to experience temperatures between 14 and 16 degrees Celsius, Siteki between 13 and 15 degrees Celsius, Mhlume between 15 and 18 degrees Celsius and Big Bend will reach a maximum of 19 degrees Celsius from a minimum of 16 degrees Celsius.
Tomorrow, wet conditions will persist, with rain and fog expected mainly over the western and northern parts of Eswatini.
The rest of the country will remain cloudy and mild, though cold conditions will prevail in the Highveld. Temperatures will drop further in Mbabane, ranging from 9 to 11 degrees Celsius. Mankayane will record minimums of 10 degrees Celsius and maximums of 12 degrees Celsius, while Manzini will see temperatures between 12 and 14 degrees Celsius. In Siteki, temperatures will range between 11 and 13 degrees Celsius, Mhlume between 13 and 16 degrees Celsius and Big Bend between 14 and 17 degrees Celsius.
By Wednesday morning, rain and fog will continue primarily over the western parts of the country. Weather conditions will gradually transition to partly cloudy intervals and mild weather in most areas, while cold temperatures will linger in the Highveld region. Mbabane will record the lowest minimum temperature of the period at 8 degrees Celsius, rising to a maximum of 11 degrees Celsius. Mankayane will record between 9 and 12 degrees Celsius, Manzini will see 11 to 14 degrees Celsius, Siteki will range between 10 and 13 degrees Celsius, Mhlume will record between 12 and 16 degrees Celsius and Big Bend will reach a maximum of 17 degrees Celsius from a minimum of 13 degrees Celsius.
