MANZINI – More than 5 000 teachers gathered at the Mavuso Sports Centre yesterday to commemorate Teachers’ Day in a celebration marked by music, dancing and a renewed commitment from the Minister for Education and Training, Owen Nxumalo, to continue supporting educators.

The gathering brought together teachers from across the country for a day dedicated to recognising their contribution to education and national development, with the atmosphere turning festive as performers took to the stage and educators joined in the celebrations.

Nxumalo, who attended the event, won the crowd’s attention when he joined teachers in dancing, sharing in the excitement of the occasion and demonstrating solidarity with the teaching fraternity.

The minister also pledged to continue supporting teachers, whose work remains central to educating learners and preparing future generations for their roles in society.

His participation added to the celebratory mood, as teachers took a break from their demanding classroom responsibilities to interact with colleagues and enjoy performances from local entertainers.

The event started with a march from Somhlolo Park to Mavuso, with teachers making their way to the venue in a show of unity before the main programme got under way.

The march set the tone for the gathering, bringing educators together under the banner of the Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT), which organises the annual Teachers’ Day celebration.
