MBABANE – The Mbabane Golf Course was buzzing yesterday as Kope Makgae, who used to play Mrekza in the TV show ‘Generations: The Legacy’, played in the yearly Mbabane Mayor’s Golf Cup for the first time.
This special golf event helps fight poverty in the city. Lots of people turned up, with 16 teams, that is 64 golfers playing on the greens. It was a day of friendly competition for a good cause.
Makgae was really keen to be part of an event doing such good. “I just couldn’t say no to an invite for an event like the Mbabane Mayor’s Golf Cup, especially with such a great reason behind it,” he said.
Talking about arriving in Eswatini, he added: “We landed yesterday, and I have to say, my first thought was how incredibly welcoming everyone is. Eswatini really is all about its people – they’re so respectful, warm and humble.”
After being shown around, even seeing the place where the Bushfire festival takes place, Makgae was eager to start golfing.
“Today, we came to the Mbabane Golf Course to play in the Mbabane Mayor’s Golf Cup. We’re having a blast; it’s raining a bit, a bit muggy and drizzling, but the weather’s fine and we’re all in good spirits. The lads are fantastic, and it’s been great meeting golfers and business leaders from Eswatini. It’s a top-notch event, and we’re really enjoying ourselves.”
Makgae stressed again how important the charity side of the tournament was.
He pointed out how good it was for business leaders to get together for such a reason.
“It’s all about giving back to the community, which really matters to me, along with getting to chat and meet new people,” he confirmed.
Municipal Council of Mbabane Information and Public Relations Officer, Lucky Tsabedze, highlighted the tournament’s growing significance.
“This event is huge for us. It’s proof of the tournament’s expanding reach in terms of publicity and the initiatives we’re driving. We’re attracting more corporate involvement,” Tsabedze stated.
He said addressing the social challenge of poverty, which forces individuals to resort to desperate measures, is very key for us. He further said the tournament allows them to play an active role in tackling these issues.
