MBABANE – Talented singer Thandolwethu Mamba has made a notable international debut as a leading Opera singer with Opera Wilmington’s production of Don Giovanni.

“My debut role is Don Giovanni and I couldn’t be more excited. This has been and continues to be an adventure of discovery, challenges and triumphs and trust in and within myself while relishing the company of my incredibly talented and wonderfully kind cast mates, music and production teams,” he said. The event, held at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW), showcased Mamba’s exceptional vocal ability and deep connection to the art form. The opera, directed by Nancy King, features complex characters and a rich musical landscape and Mamba’s portrayal of the infamous seducer Don Giovanni was met with approval. He brought a fresh perspective to the role, blending charisma with an understanding of the character’s darker elements.

“We are a long way from the boy who fell in love with this work through the tiny screen of his friend’s mother’s computer in Mbabane, Eswatini, but the feeling of wonder and excitement is still as potent, if not more,” read Mamba’s caption on his social media pages, acknowledging his work and excitement for his recent role.

The young artist’s experience with Opera Wilmington has been a journey of discovery, challenges and triumphs. The final dress rehearsal, which took place just days before the opening night, was a moment of pride for Mamba and his casemates.
