MBABANE – A push for gold!
In a stirring show of support, Athletics Eswatini (AE) President Zakhele Dlamini paid a visit to the national team on Sunday at the Mavuso Sports Centre, where the athletes have been honing their skills under the watchful eye of Coach Sibusiso ‘Swazi Bolt’ Matsenjwa.
The Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Senior Regional Championships have been booked for Zimbabwe, starting July 26-27, where there will be a team send-off tomorrow at the Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) offices at Lobamba.
Dlamini’s presence was a timely boost, as he delivered a clear message – the federation’s commitment is to elite performance and podium finishes. The seasoned sports administrator commended the athletes for their relentless dedication, noting the strides made in their preparation.
“The level of support and training you’ve received leaves no room for excuses,” he said, his tone firm yet encouraging.
He has further stated it is time to make Eswatini proud and bring home medals. His words emphasised the federation’s ambition to see their athletes not just compete but dominate on the global stage.
The national team, led by the charismatic team Captain Mcebo Mkhaliphi, received Dlamini’s rallying cry with enthusiasm.
Speaking on behalf of his teammates, Mkhaliphi expressed gratitude for the federation’s backing.
“We’re immensely grateful for the support we’ve received. Training under Coach Sibusiso has been exceptional – it’s an honour to learn from him.
“We’re fully prepared and promise to give absolutely everything for Eswatini at the championships,” he said.
Under Matsenjwa’s guidance, the squad has been put through its paces at Mavuso Sports Centre, with rigorous sessions designed to sharpen their competitive edge.
The coach’s reputation for meticulous preparation has clearly inspired confidence, as Mkhaliphi’s words echoed a collective determination to deliver results.
