MBABANE – EFA’s returning President Peter ‘Samora’ Simelane’s implementation of his ‘super results’ will begin soon.
This follows the revelation of a E45.3 million (US$2.5 million) mouth-watering planned budget aimed at constructing the Mafutseni Technical Centre. Simelane said this when addressing his general assembly during the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Elective Annual General Meeting yesterday, at the luxurious Hilton Garden Inn.
He retained the hot seat, amassing 27 votes, beating his former Vice President, Mashumi Shongwe, who secured 21. Meanwhile, Nkosingiphile Shongwe was announced as the new Vice President after securing 31 votes. Shongwe will serve in this position alongside Steve Horton who is also returning after accumulating 26 votes. Furthermore, Aaron ‘Katalala’ Mavimbela and Sicelo Nene will serve as members in the committee. Phumzile Dlamini is the new women elected member after winning by 29 votes against Sindi Dludlu who achieved 17.
This will be the fifth technical centre in the country, following those at Lobamba, Nhlangano, KaLanga in Siteki and Mkhuzweni near Buhleni in northern Hhohho. The construction of the technical centres is funded by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) under the Forward Programme. Works at the site are expected to start soon. The last to be completed, Mkhuzweni Technical Centre, was constructed at an estimated value of E35 million.
“Delegates, EFA is now very happy that the newly-constructed technical centres at Mkhuzweni and Kalanga are now in the vocabulary of everyone, which goes to show the dire need of such facilities, as a foundation for football development and economic viability. “Now that the Somhlolo Stadium is returning, EFA’s work will refocus on the realisation of the implementation of the Mafutseni Technical Centre, in the Manzini region, as regulations now permit us to benefit from the FIFA Forward Projects Funding, where an estimation of about US$2.5 million covering the buildings and an artificial turf pitch are planned,” part of his written speech read.
