MBABANE – The Eswatini Golf Union (EGU) has received a donation of 24 golf bags from The Royal and Ancient (R&A) Golf Club of St Andrews, Scotland.

The donation was unveiled yesterday afternoon at the Mbabane Golf Club by the EGU, led by its President Jacques Potgieter.

The R&A has evolved over the years from a private golf club into a separate group of companies responsible for governing the rules of golf and organising some of the sport’s most prestigious tournaments.

President Potgieter disclosed the donation of 24 golf bags, which include golf clubs and are intended to help revitalise the country’s junior youth golf programme.

“This programme has been stagnant for two years and is now back. We are committed to reviving this and growing it by leaps and bounds to ensure that the Junior Golf Development programme benefits the future of our country,” Potgieter said.

He added that the donation will benefit centres across the country that have been struggling with a lack of equipment, as some youngsters have been willing to play the sport, but have been let down by a shortage of equipment.
