MBABANE – The Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) clubs have asked the Executive Committee (ExCo) members to negotiate for a reduction in venue rental fees.

This was disclosed by PLE Chairman Polycarp Dlamini, during a press briefing after the Extraordinary General Assembly (EGA) held this past Saturday at Sigwaca House.

Dlamini said teams have requested them to negotiate prices for Eswatini Football Association (EFA) technical centres, some privately-owned venues and Mavuso Sports Centre.

The chairman reported that teams stated that the high rates leave them with less money from gate entries, as some percentages are too high.

He gave the example of Mavuso Sports Centre, where he said they had successful negotiations with the owners, the Eswatini Investment Promotion Authority (EIPA), to slightly reduce the percentage last season.

It was said that in previous seasons, which may now be different, 20 per cent of the gate collections went to the owner, while the booking fee was E2 000 per game.

This is the same as some other technical centres, such as the new Mkhuzweni Technical Centre.

Meanwhile, Somhlolo National Stadium, which is still undergoing renovations, allegedly had a booking fee of E10 000.
