LOBAMBA – Six of Eswatini’s most promising junior players will earn the opportunity to represent the country next year, following the conclusion of the Swaziland Building Society (SBS) Under-16 Tournament.
According to Eswatini National Tennis Association (ENTA) Secretary General, Cyprian Dlamini, the tournament served as a crucial step in preparing a national team for an upcoming event in Namibia next January.
“We selected 16 Under-16s from the four regions: Shiselweni, Hhohho, Lubombo and Manzini. Our goal is to choose a final squad of three girls and three boys to form a team of six players,” Dlamini said.
He emphasised the importance of dedicated preparation, noting that the country’s standard of play is currently below that of other nations.
“Once we have selected the squad, we will put them into intensive training. This will help upskill their level ahead of the tournament,” he added.
Dlamini confirmed that these intensive training camps would be held monthly, with a final selection tournament scheduled for December.
