MATSAPHA – EOCGA has announced a new E6 million budget for the Olympic Solidarity Fund’s scholarship programme, targeting the Los Angeles 2028 Games.
The revelation was made yesterday by Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) President Adam ‘Bomber’ Mthethwa during the programme’s launch at Esibayeni Lodge in Matsapha.
The financial support, which Mthethwa described as ‘unprecedented’, is designed to help some of the country’s top athletes prepare for and undertake Olympic qualification. “I am happy to inform the house that through support from the Olympic Solidarity, EOCGA is hereby launching a scholarship for seven of the country’s top athletes to the tune of E6 million,” Mthethwa said.
Olympic Solidarity is the arm of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) that provides assistance to National Olympic Committees (NOCs) around the world.
Its main mission is to support the development of athletes, especially in countries with the greatest need, so that they can fulfil their responsibilities to the Olympic Movement. Eswatini’s NOC is EOCGA.
The scholarships will be spread across five sports: Athletics, boxing, judo, swimming and taekwondo, with judo being a new addition to the list.
