MBABANE – Nsingizini FC’s maiden voyage in the CAF Champions League got off to a difficult start, as they fell 1-0 to Zimbabwean side Simba Bhora in the preliminary round first leg at Obed Itani Chilume Stadium on Sunday evening.

A solitary second-half strike from Ishmael Nyanhi was enough to separate the two sides, leaving the Eswatini outfit with a mountain to climb in the return fixture.

Both teams were making their bow in the continent’s premier club competition, and a cagey affair reflected the inexperience on the big stage. Clear-cut chances were few and far between, with a tightly-contested goalless first-half setting the tone. Nsingizini, who started with 8Bet Trade Fair Cup’s best goalkeeper Sibusiso Dlamini ahead of the more experienced Khanyakwezwe Shabalala, had their moments but failed to convert them into a meaningful threat. However, the Zimbabweans proved to be more clinical, with Ishmael Nyanhi finding the back of the net in the 56th minute to give his side a crucial away goal advantage.

All is not lost for the Eswatini champions, but their task is clear. They must now return home to Somhlolo National Stadium this coming Sunday and score at least two unanswered goals to secure passage to the next round of the competition. While a tough ask, the tie remains finely poised.
