MBABANE – Prime Minister Russell Dlamini has alleged that the humiliation he suffered at the last Editor’s Forum was planned.
This assertion by the PM formed part of responses on a question for oral answer that was asked by Ngudzeni Member of Parliament (MP) Charles Ndlovu.
The legislator requested the PM to explain to the House what had stopped him from engaging the public through the monthly breakfast meetings with the Eswatini Editors Forum and if he intends to resume this engagement since it enhanced transparency of the Eswatini Government.
In his response, the PM revealed that there was no desire at the moment for government to continue with the breakfast meetings with editors as they repeatedly failed to serve their mandate, particularly the last few meetings where it was clear that certain editors did not welcome government gesture with respect and professionalism.
The PM said instead, the Editors Forum, meetings were deliberately turned into a mockery and became derogatory to the Office of the PM, and by extension to government and the entire nation. The PM explained that the idea behind the meetings was a noble one, aimed at providing government with the opportunity to update the nation on service delivery progress and also give the editors the opportunity to ask relevant questions on behalf of the nation.
