MBABANE – Mbabane Highlanders were racing against time to secure Phiwa Dlamini ahead of the registration deadline which closed last night.
The club have been in talks with Young Buffaloes over the signature of top striker Dlamini for a week and a last-minute deal was highly likely.
Buffaloes Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sandile Gwebu confirmed Highlanders approached them for Dlamini, while Patron Ace Jele also confirmed the club are bolstering their striking department. He further confirmed player salaries were paid yesterday, but declined to comment on other matters.
After weeks of speculation over unpaid wages, Highlanders have now confirmed that player salaries were processed yesterday. Players had signed contracts on August 25, 2025, but payments were delayed due to bank account issues that have since been resolved.
A reliable insider confirmed the delay was technical, not mismanagement. The new salary structure sees the highest-paid player earn E15 000, while the lowest takes home E5 000, leaving players content and relieved.
