MBABANE – Russia is expanding its African outreach as it negotiates visa-free travel agreements with Eswatini, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe, which will boost trade and tourism.
Once finalised, the move will increase the number of African nations offering visa-free entry to Russian citizens from 11 to 15.
According to reports from Russian and African news outlets, the proposed agreements would allow Russian travellers to visit these countries for up to 30 to 90 days without requiring a visa.
The initiative aims to boost tourism, strengthen trade ties and deepen diplomatic cooperation between Russia and the African continent.
While the agreements are still under negotiation and not yet in effect, the step is sign of Moscow’s growing interest in building closer relationships with African nations.
The initiative reflects Russia’s intensified engagement with Africa amid strained relations with the West.
As European travel restrictions for Russians remain tight, Africa has emerged as a preferred destination for both tourism and trade expansion.
