MBABANE – Thompson Dlamini has pledged his loyalty to His Majesty the King, turning down a E15 000 monthly salary and sponsorship opportunity.
This comes after the bodybuilder, participated in the Gentle Giants dubbed competition in South Africa, where he was unfortunate to compete in a category not his own because of logistical and registration issues.
Dlamini, who usually competes in the 70kg category, saw himself competing in the 80kg category, which put him at a disadvantage.
“I had some challenges with registration for my category and I was lucky that the competition organisers allowed me to compete in another category instead of not competing at all,” expressed Dlamini with gratitude.
However, despite competing in a foreign category to him, Dlamini managed to compete for a sixth place finish, which could have provided a better outcome if he had competed in his category.
He further shared that during the competition, he was able to get a sponsor, but had to turn it down because of his loyalties at the Umbutfo Eswatini Defence Force (UEDF), where he also serves as a bodyguard.
“I got a sponsor in South Africa but I couldn’t accept their offer because of their terms. They want me to quit the army and move to South Africa, where they want me to serve as a brand ambassador and assist with their marketing for a E15 000 monthly salary,” remarked Dlamini.
