MANZINI – The man who stabbed a textile worker in the neck has alleged that the deceased provoked the attack.
Ayanda Buyani Dlamini (31) of Bethany appeared before court for the murder of his girlfriend Sibekiwe Bonsile Mkhaliphi of Sithobelweni. He appeared before Manzini Senior Magistrate Nonhlanhla Dlamini, facing a charge of murder after allegedly stabbing his girlfriend to death at Mathangeni in the Manzini District.
According to the charge sheet, the incident occurred on October 21, 2025, when Dlamini is said to have unlawfully and intentionally killed Mkhaliphi by stabbing her in the neck with a sharp object.
When the matter was called before court, Dlamini recounted a chilling version of events. He told the magistrate that on the day in question, both he and the deceased had been drinking alcohol. During their drinking session, Mkhaliphi reportedly told him that she had found a better man and suggested they have one last sexual encounter as a form of farewell.
Dlamini said the statement angered him and an argument ensued. He claimed that Mkhaliphi then told him: “You want to kill me,” before taking out a knife, placing it beside her and challenging him to do so, allegedly saying, “If you want to kill me, here is a knife, kill me.”
He told the court that, in a fit of rage and under the influence of alcohol, he strangled her and later took the knife and stabbed her in the neck.
Following his appearance in court, Dlamini was remanded in custody at the Manzini Remand Centre, pending his next court appearance.
News about the death of the textile worker shocked the nation yesterday after it was revealed that boyfriend strangled and stabbed her, leaving the knife lodged in her neck. Mkhaliphi was found lying in a pool of blood inside her rented one-room flat.
According to a source close to the matter, Mkhaliphi, who worked in one of the textile factories in Matsapha, had reported to her family members and workplace that she was having problems with her boyfriend, Dlamini (31) of Bethany, who was allegedly abusive.
The source alleged that Dlamini, who had been staying with Mkhaliphi for over three months, would often strangle her or assault her with his hands during arguments. Mkhaliphi reportedly said Dlamini threatened to kill her if she went to the police. “In fact, she said the boyfriend told her that even if she reports him to the police, he is not scared of them,” the source said.
