The experienced tactician has been released to take up a new challenge with Premier League side Ubombo Sugar FC.

In a worded statement released on the club’s Facebook page, Red Rhinos thanked the coach for his contribution and stressed that the departure was entirely amicable.

The announcement revealed that representatives of both clubs held a very lengthy meeting before reaching an agreement that allowed the move to proceed.

“We would like to inform all our stakeholders that Coach Percy has been released from the team to join Ubombo Sugar FC. The two teams had a very lengthy meeting and it was agreed that he will be joining Ubombo Sugar,” reads part of the statement.

The club moved quickly to reassure supporters that continuity would be maintained in the technical area, while Shongwe would be welcomed back, should he decide to.

“We would like to wish him all the best as he joins the team and would like to let him know that he will always be welcomed at Red Rhinos FC,” continued the statement.

Meanwhile, assistant Coach Simephi Mamba has been promoted to the role of Head Coach with immediate effect, while Kosh Tsabedze remains in post as sn assistant.  Mmema continues as the team’s fitness coach.

However, no specific details were given regarding the length of Percy’s tenure with the Big bend-based outfit.

The move sees shongwe link up with Ubombo Sugar at a vital point in the season, with Ubombo Sugar battling in the lower reaches of the MTN Premier League.

His arrival is expected to bolster Ubombo’s technical team as they push for domestic honours and assert their mark in the top flight league under Shongwe’s guidance.

Red Rhinos, meanwhile, will hope the internal promotion of Mamba provides stability and continuity as they aim to maintain their competitive edge under familiar leadership.

When reached for comment, Shongwe stated that this is a great challenge for him and is eager to take up his new role with Ubombo Sugar.

“It’s great to be back in the Premier League firstly and also I have to thank my former employers for the support they have afforded me to make this move possible,” remarked Shongwe.

He added that he has watched a few games of Ubombo Sugar and they have a great squad.

“They have a good team and one has to love the professionalism within the structures and I have no doubt the team’s performance will improve,” added Shongwe.
