‘Methodist Medley’ surpasses 3 million YouTube views

MBABANE — Eswatini’s revered Gospel artist, Nothando Hlophe, has marked another phenomenal career milestone, with her soul-stirring live performance of ‘Methodist Medley’ soaring past three million views on YouTube.

The achievement not only cements her status as a continental Gospel powerhouse, but also underscores the track’s profound and enduring resonance with a global audience. The single, a vibrant, nostalgia-infused medley of classic Lutheran hymns and contemporary Gospel, is a standout track from her latest album, ‘A New Dawn’. Since its release, the song has been making waves on Social media such as TikTok, with people using the sound on their posts.

The song’s popularity has transcended national borders, evidenced by its previous performance on streaming platforms such as on Spotify,  where it has charted among some of Southern Africa’s most prominent Gospel artists.

 The success of ‘Methodist Medley’ follows her recent crowning as the Best of Africa at the prestigious SABC Crown Gospel Music Awards, further solidifying her influence across the continent. During the event in Durban ICC, KZN South Africa a massive crowd celebrated Nothando Hlophe singing the ‘Methodist Medley,’ a song they all relate to.

Just recently the Gospel sensation reaffirmed her deep respect for the hymn traditions, she confirmed that the beloved hymns featured in her chart-topping track ‘Methodist Medley,’ are originally rooted in the Lutheran traditions.

Speaking through her manager, Phindokuhle Sithole, Hlophe emphasised her commitment to honouring the song’s true origins.

“It is from the Lutheran tradition,” Sithole explained. “But over the years it has evolved into the public domain, and many of us first encountered it within the Methodist worship setting” he said. He further noted that despite this clarification, the title ‘Methodist Medley’ will remain unchanged on all streaming platforms, preserving the song’s identity as fans know and love it.
