MBABANE – Football is officially back on the silver screen following a new partnership between Eswatini Television (ETVA) and the MTN Premier League of Eswatini (PLE).
While the live broadcast of MTN Premier League games has traditionally occurred very rarely, but fans are now guaranteed the broadcast of one live game per month.
This new arrangement is effective from this month until the end of the season, as announced by the national television broadcaster yesterday.
The last time a top-flight league game was shown live was during a pilot exercise last season, in October, which unfortunately ceased before broadcasting the agreed six matches.
During that brief period, fans watched Sisonkhe play Mbabane Highlanders at the King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium.
Eswatini Tv Senior Marketing and Communication Officer, Nomcebo Malinga, announced the partnership will see them broadcast one of the ‘Y’ello Sunday’ matches.
“The games be broadcast on the last Sunday of each month until the season finishes. Eswatini TV promises to deliver a memorable viewing experience to football enthusiasts with the live coverage,” Malinga said.
She further announced that they will connect football fans locally and abroad with live action from the Mavuso Sports Centre this weekend during the league’s week nine fixture.
“We will broadcast live a match from the ‘Y’ello Sunday’ at 3:45pm, which will be the game between Moneni Pirates and Mbabane Swallows,” she added.
Besides the match itself, Malinga said they plan to feature pre-match and post-match analyses, behind-the-scenes content, highlights, and interactive segments to engage viewers.
Worth noting is that Eswatini Tv has previously demonstrated its capacity for live sports broadcasting with its full coverage of marathons such as the Imbube Marathon and the recent Mbabane Marathon.
They also broadcast live the Africa Aquatics Zone IV Swimming and Open Water Championships in September and annually broadcast the Ingwenyama Cup finals.
