MBABANE – Last Sunday’s live broadcast of the Moneni Pirates vs Mbabane Swallows MTN Premier League clash hit your screens but what was its price tag?

That question over the financial benefit of a live television broadcast and its potential effect on stadium attendance is surely some of the questions asked by many fans when the news of the live broadcast was broke.

These could have questions stemmed from the past difficulties surrounding broadcast deals, which have often stumbled on financial grounds with no consensus reached on who pays whom and how much.

However, according to a source privy to the information, last Sunday’s Eswatini Television’s (Tv) broadcast deal is reportedly worth E30 000.

The source was, however, not certain whether this figure would be the fixed price tag attached to all ‘Y’ello Sunday games going forward as the games have different categories.

The national broadcaster announced a week ago that it had secured a season-long deal with the MTN Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) to broadcast the once-a-month matches for the remainder of the season.

Senior Marketing and Communications Officer at Eswatini TV Nomcebo Malinga said that specific financial details remain confidential as part of the station’s operating protocols.“Regarding the reports about the broadcasting rights fee, we can confirm that the station invested responsibly to secure the rights for the broadcast,” she stated.

Malinga further reflected on the overall live broadcast quality and technical execution, which she said were impressive. “The broadcast met and, in some respects, exceeded our station’s expectations.

“It showcased strong coordination and innovation in sports coverage and for future broadcasts, we see potential enhancements in camera angles to capture more dynamic action shots and incorporating more interactive segments to engage viewers further,” she mentioned.

The senior marketing and communications officer further highlighted the potential for corporate support, saying that public and corporate sponsorship, along with advertisements, would allow for expanded technical capabilities. She said this will enhance the reach and impact of the broadcasts.
