MBABANE – Could the year end on a high note of footballing thrills?
The stage is set for dramatic pre-Christmas fixtures as the MTN Premier League week 12 throws up a sensational ‘Super Sunday’ double-header at the Mavuso Sports Centre; just one weekend shy of the festive holidays.
The Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) released the fixture list yesterday, with headline fixtures to be played at Mavuso on Sunday.
The day’s action will kick off at 1:30pm, with the ‘curtain raiser’ game between Manzini Wanderers and the reigning champions and current log leaders, Nsingizini Hotspurs. The struggling hub giants have in the past, posed a difficult challenge for the Shiselweni-based side, making this a crucial test for the log leaders as they will attempt to consolidate pole position.
The day’s activities will end in a grudge match between Mbabane Highlanders and Moneni Pirates. This fixture has built a reputation as one of the league’s high-intensity encounters, consistently lighting up the pitch whenever the two sides cross swords.
It is often characterised by high player tension that sometimes results in on-pitch scuffles. Both teams are currently lodged at mid-table and their previous encounters guarantee a dramatic affair.
Meanwhile, the other fixtures will be spread across Saturday, where Mbabane Swallows are set to play their first fixture at the Prince of Wales Sports Ground with a visit to rookies Amawele.
It is worth noting that, according to the master fixtures schedule; action was originally intended to stretch into the weekend after Christmas before taking a two-week break. However, the current scheduling suggests that the league is now ahead of its master calendar, potentially making this the last round of fixtures this year.
