MBABANE – Mangaliso Masilela produced a composed and clinical round to claim top honours in this week’s Mkotoka Leg of Lamb (LOL) competition.
This was during the weekly competition played at Mbabane Golf Club, edging a tightly-packed field in a contest rich with pedigree and pressure.
A healthy turnout of 35 golfers teed it up, with no fewer than 19 former LOL winners in the field, ensuring a competitive tempo from the opening tee shot to the final putt.
Masilela carded an impressive 22 points to finish clear at the summit, holding his nerve down the stretch to fend off a determined challenge from Mzwandile Vilakati, who stayed firmly in contention throughout the round before signing for 21 points and second place.
The battle for the remaining podium places went down to the wire, with Ncamiso Ntshalintshali and Andrew Mkhonta both posting 20 points, Ntshalintshali edging third spot on countback as margins proved razor-thin.
Behind the leaders, the chasing pack was equally congested, with Sibusiso Shongwe prevailing on countback in a three-way tie on 19 points, while Tim Mavuso emerged on countback from another three-way tie on 18.
Mbabane Golf Club Captain Gideon Mhlongo praised both the standard of play and the spirit of competition, noting that the depth of former winners in the field elevated the contest and reflected the growing strength of the LOL series, while also commending Masilela for his composure under pressure and consistency across the round.
Mhlongo further extended appreciation to Mkotoka Developers for their continued and unwavering support, describing the partnership as vital to sustaining competitive golf at the club.
Golfers were once again encouraged to support Mbabane Golf Club through the purchase of merchandise, patronage of the bar or sponsorship, as the club continues to build a vibrant and competitive golfing environment.
