MBABANE— Eswatini gaffers believe the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations is hurtling towards a photo-finish, with the semi-finalists separated by the thinnest of margins.
The high-stakes semi-final double-header takes place tomorrow. The Atlas Lions of Morocco welcome the Super Eagles of Nigeria to the Stade Ibn Batouta in Tangier, while the Teranga Lions of Senegal lock horns with Egypt at the Stade de Marrakech. The victors will advance to the grand finale this Sunday, at the iconic Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, where the 2025 kings of Africa will finally be anointed.
Speaking on the ongoing tournament, Coach Sifiso Dlamini described the final four as ‘evenly matched’, suggesting that individual brilliance or a lapse in concentration will be the decider. He singled out the clash between hosts Morocco and Nigeria as particularly intriguing.
“It’s a dead heat,” Dlamini asserted. “History and home advantage favour the Atlas Lions, but the Super Eagles have the edge on current form. It’s a match where a single moment of magic could settle the score. Senegal have displayed the balance and maturity; they have the pedigree to edge past the Pharaohs.”
Seasoned Coach Musa Mamba echoed those sentiments, highlighting the volatile nature of knockout football and the difficulty of predicting a winner at this elite level.
“AFCON is notoriously difficult to call,” Mamba noted. “Egypt’s tournament experience might see them grind out a result and find a way to the final, but the Morocco-Nigeria fixture is too close to predict. I believe the eventual champion will come from one of those two sides due to their tactical discipline and superior squad depth.”
Adding a final perspective on the heavyweights, Manzini Wanderers Coach Gcina Dlamini tipped Nigeria and Senegal as the most likely to lift the trophy.
“Nigeria and Senegal look the part to me. One of them will be crowned champions,” Dlamini stated. “The Super Eagles are playing with fierce intensity and a clinical edge. They look a side possessed, driven by the bitterness of missing out on the World Cup.”
