MANZINI – The Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Vice President Steve Horton has been slapped with two counts.
Horton (54) was hauled before Manzini Magistrate Justice Mzizi yesterday morning facing two counts.
According to the charge sheet, in count one, he is charged for allegedly contravening section 77(1) of the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Act 15 of 2018.
As per the charge sheet, last week Wednesday, while at Ticantfwini, in the Manzini District, Horton being a boyfriend, unlawfully and intentionally assaulted his partner with fists all over her face and head.
He allegedly kicked her in the stomach and further banged her against the floor, a conduct which harms or may cause imminent harm to the safety, health or well-being of the aggrieved person and thus commit the above cited offence.
In the second count, he is charged with the offence of contravening Section 48(1) of the Children’s Protection and Welfare Act 6 of 2012. Being the father and having care of a five-year-old, he is alleged to have wrongfully and unlawfully exposed the child to abuse by beating his mother in front of the child, in a manner likely to cause harm and such conduct cause the child or likely to cause the child psychological and emotional injury and thereby contravened the above-cited Act.
When paraded in court, Horton was once again remanded out of custody pending setting of his trial before Principal Magistrate David Khumalo on Monday.
The survivor, who is said to be a teacher by profession, was purportedly admitted to the Eswatini Breast and Cervical Cancer Network (Women and Children’s) clinic for medical attention due to the severity of her injuries.
The victim also reportedly sustained serious injuries to her face.
