MBABANE – A second supporter has been fined following the violent skirmishes that erupted at Mavuso Sports Centre last Sunday.

Yesterday, Mciniseli Mdluli, who was famously captured half-naked amid the chaos, appeared before the Manzini Magistrates Court facing charges of attacking match official Celumusa Siphepho. According to the charge sheet, Mdluli assaulted the referee with a flurry of punches and kicks with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Appearing before Magistrate Justice Mzizi, Mdluli pleaded guilty. He was sentenced to two years imprisonment, with an option of a E2 000 fine.

He follows in the footsteps of Lucky Fortune, the first supporter arrested in connection with the incident, who appeared in the same court on Monday.

While Fortune admitted to disrupting the match, he maintained he did not personally assault the referee.

Fortune was sentenced to a E2 000 fine or 20 months in prison, with five months suspended on the condition that he paid E1 500 immediately. He was further warned him that any repeat offence would result in a lifetime ban from football matches.
