LOBAMBA – From villains to heroes!
That is the remarkable story of Shiselweni-based outfit Nsingizini Hotspurs, for whom last season’s humbling round of 32 exit at the hands of Red Rhinos has clearly served as a vital catalyst.
‘Insingizi YeZulu’ have bounced back stronger than ever this term, ruthlessly dispatching Msumpe Manchester 6-2 to secure a historic semi-final berth for the first time in this Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accidents Fund (SMVAF)-sponsored tournament.
The Shiselweni giants progressed in clinical style, led by a devastating hat-trick from South African-born marksman Senzo ‘Mbhobho’ Ndlovu. Kingsley Kwakyi and Daniel Dio also joined the goal-scoring spree to dismantle the MulaSport National First Division (NFD) ‘giant slayers’. Msumpe’s misery was compounded by an own goal from Phiwa Mkhonta.
While Manchester found late consolation through strikes from Thando Ndwandwe and Samkelo Dlamini, they were ultimately outclassed.
Despite the heavy defeat, Msumpe leave the E5 million tournament with their heads held high, having established themselves as formidable underdogs after knocking out MTN Premier League sides Tabankulu Celtics and Rangers. A one-sided first half saw ‘Mbhobho’ bag a brace, while towering defender Kingsley Kwakyi headed home as the hosts completely overpowered the visitors.
Msumpe caused a brief stir during the three minutes of added time indicated by referee Thembinkosi ‘Dovos’ Dlamini. Defender Thando Ndwandwe forced home their first goal to reduce the deficit just before the interval, providing a glimmer of hope for the NFD side.
After the restart, substitute Samkelo Dlamini sparked genuine panic in the Nsingizini camp, unleashing a stunner that left goalkeeper Sibusiso ‘Bharaba’ Dlamini rooted to the spot, just six minutes into the second half.
