LOBAMBA – Royal seal of approval.

The road to the Ingwenyama Cup final received a majestic boost, as His Majesty King Mswati III lauded the tournament’s evolution during his 58th birthday and 40th anniversary celebrations this past Friday. Speaking before a capacity crowd and regional heads of State at Somhlolo National Stadium —including Botswana’s President Advocate Duma Boko and Lesotho’s King Letsie III—the Monarch reflected on the competition’s 2015 launch.

He described the tournament not merely as a sporting fixture, but as a vital pillar of Eswatini’s national identity, cementing its status as the premier intersection of the country’s sporting prowess and rich cultural heritage.

“The country continues to support our youth by providing opportunities and resources through development funds and the launch of initiatives such as the Ingwenyama Cup, which blends sports and culture helping to expose young talent to diverse careers,” said the king.

This royal commendation sets a high-octane stage for next Sunday, May 3, when the footballing world turns its eyes back to the ‘Mecca’ of Eswatini sport. The atmosphere across the country is reaching fever pitch as fans prepare for a clash of titans that embodies the King’s vision of excellence. On one side of the pitch stands Green Mamba, the clinical ‘Inyoka Eluhlaza’ , who are hunting a historic third title.

Having already secured two trophies since the tournament’s inception, a win on Sunday would arguably make them the most successful outfit in the competition’s decade-long history alongside Mbabane Swallows.

However, standing in their way are the spirited Nsingizini Hotspurs. The Shiselweni-based side have emerged as the tournament’s most exciting disruptors, playing a brand of fearless football that has captivated the nation. For Hotspurs, this is more than just a match; it is an opportunity to claim their first-ever Ingwenyama Cup under the watchful eyes of the throne and a global television audience.
