EZULWINI – Mbabane Highlanders winger Siyabonga Mkhonto is the man of the hour after being crowned the MTN Premier League Player of the Month (POTM) for April.
The presentation took place yesterday at the MTN Headquarters in Ezulwini, attended by Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Football Manager Banele ‘Dingz’ Masondo and MTN Eswatini Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) Meshack Maseko.
Interestingly, Siyabonga dethroned his elder brother, Philani ‘Mkasabuli’ Mkhonto, who was the winner of the gong in March. The Highlanders winger beat out stiff competition, including MTN Premier League rivals Mbabane Swallows’ in-form striker Njongo ‘Jakalazi’ Mazibuko and Inkunzi’emnyama’s South African-born forward Zwelihle Phewa.
The former Hawane Shooting Stars player enjoyed a lucrative April, taking home a combined total of E8 032. This included the E7 000 prize for the POTM title and an additional E1 032 for being the fans’ choice at Highlanders, where he topped the club’s voting polls.
Siyabonga dedicated the award to his teammates, noting that their unity makes his job much easier. He also attributed his performance to the arrival of Coach Selaotse ‘Sly’ Mosala, who has brought unity and belief back to the team.
