RABAT – Eswatini’s trailblazing video match official, Letticia Antonella Viana, has once again hoisted the national flag high on the continental stage.

Viana got a gold medal following the thrilling conclusion of the CAF Champions League final in Morocco this past Sunday.

Viana, who served as an Assistant Video Assistant Referee (AVAR) for the second leg of the final between Mamelodi Sundowns and AS FAR, was seen beaming as she received a commemorative gold medal in recognition of her elite-level contribution to the tournament’s officiating team. The match, held at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on Sunday, May 24, 2026, saw Mamelodi Sundowns edge out the Moroccan side 2-1 on agregate to claim the title in a high-stakes encounter that required Viana’s expert technical oversight from the VAR booth.

The ceremony served as a fitting tribute to her exceptional performance throughout the tournament. By officiating at the highest level of African club football, Viana has solidified her standing as a premier match official on the continent.

Her achievement in Rabat is the latest milestone in a glittering career. Earlier this year, in January 2026, she made history by officiating in the final of the men’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) between Senegal and Morocco, also hosted in Rabat. Viana’s rapid ascent in football technology has seen her become one of the most reliable and trusted VAR specialists in Africa, with her résumé boasting appearances at the TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), the CHAN tournament, and as a pioneering video official at the 2022 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup in India.
