Nissan has officially launched the new Navara Stealth in the local market and is now available in Eswatini at Motruck. The Stealth is a unique mid-range option for the locally-made Navara bakkie, which was last seen six years ago.

However, the carmaker has elected to bring back the nameplate, adding a number of bespoke cosmetics to two of its double cab units.

“Despite its name, the Stealth isn’t subtle or quiet by any means. Although it trades the striking chrome of the Navara for a bold matte and gloss black accents, its road presence is far too daring to miss,” said Maciej Klenkiewicz, Country Director for Nissan South Africa and Independent Markets Africa (IMA).

“A Navara Stealth driver is someone who’s particularly drawn to the power and precision of a masterfully engineered bakkie of this calibre, yet still wants to arrive at their destination in a vehicle that turns heads.”

The Navara Stealth is available in both 2×4 and 4×4 specifications and prices start at E695 200.

Features

Befitting its name, a deep black finish has been applied to several components on the new bakkie, including the roof rails, grille, mirror caps, door handles, side steps, doors and tailgate. The automaker has also made the exterior more aggressive by adding a new nudge bar, sports bar and a unique set of 17-inch alloy wheels.

It’s a similar story inside, as the Navara features all-black leather seats, door panels and arm rests. The touchscreen in the centre console supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and front and rear USB ports allow occupants to charge their devices regardless of their seating position.

Important to note is that the Stealth is positioned between the mid-range LE and the flagship Pro 4X units, meaning its standard spec sheet includes more than a few nice-to-haves.

The Nissan comes with automatic LED headlights and daytime running lights, rain-sensing wipers, auto-folding side mirrors, keyless entry and start, a leather multifunction steering wheel, automatic climate control, six speakers, cruise control, rear parking sensors, a reverse camera and six airbags.

Engine

The Stealth is available in both rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive formats, both of which are equipped with the brand’s 2.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine.

This block generates a total of 140kW and 450Nm, allowing it to tow up to 3 500kg. It can also haul a maximum of 1 086kg in the rear tray. Gear changes are handled by a seven-speed automatic transmission, but only the 4WD units have a low-range transfer case.

On the other hand, both versions have a rear differential lock. Additionally, the Stealth features a five-link rear suspension system with coil springs, which provides greater comfort than traditional leaf springs.

It also has recalibrated dampers with a faster rebound recovery, allowing them to return to their normal position more quickly after compression. Fuel consumption works out to an average of 8.1l/100km, giving the Navara a range of 988km on its 80-litre tank.
