MBABANE – Eswatini’s sprinting quartet is set to compete on a state-of-the-art new track at Scotstoun Stadium when they chase medals at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
The games, which begin in 13 days’ time, will take place at a newly-revamped venue which has a world-class athletics surface, according to the Commonwealth Games Federation. Athletes will compete on a high-performance track when the athletics programme begins on Monday, July 27, 2026.
The Commonwealth Games body has disclosed this latest development just a day ago, as preparations for the event intensify.
“The new DYNAMIK MONDO Sportflex Super X 720 is the most technologically-advanced track surface in the world. It is softer, with elliptical-profile air cells that return energy to the athlete more efficiently, helping improve performance,” the Commonwealth Games Federation says.
This track surface was first pioneered at the Beijing 2008 Olympics, where it helped produce four world records, and has since been further enhanced. During this 2008 Summer Olympics, Isiah Msibi and Temalangeni Dlamini represented the country, competing in the 1 500m and 400m, respectively.
The new track will not only benefit Glasgow 2026 athletes, but will also be gifted to the city afterwards, leaving a lasting sporting legacy at the Scotstoun Stadium facility.
Athletics and para-athletics events will feature a total of 59 medal events, spread over six days at Scotstoun Stadium.
