MANZINI – The 8Bet Trade Fair Cup is set to return with a bang, as the tournament’s third edition promises high-stakes action from August 28 to September 6, coinciding with the 58th EIPA Trade Fair Show.
The official launch at the Mavuso Sports Centre Basketball Court was a vibrant affair, serving as a full-day celebration of football. Representing 8Bet, lawyer Mlungisi Khumalo confirmed the long-term commitment: “It gives us immense pleasure to be granted the opportunity to partner with EIPA and PLE.
The superiors have instructed me to confirm that the sponsorship is renewed for a further three years.”
However, the fixture reveal, delivered by PLE Chief Executive Officer Pat ‘Kungumusa’ Vilakati, brought immediate tension. Explaining the draw process, Vilakati stated: “The teams are matched as per the regulations of this tournament, which state that the standings of last season are used.”
The pairings have thrown heavyweights into challenging matchups. Defending champions Nsingizini Hotspurs face Madlenya, while Young Buffaloes and Mbabane Highlanders take on Pigg’s Peak Professionals and Ubombo Sugar, respectively. Capital rivals Mbabane Swallows clash with Rangers and Royal Leopard battle Tabankulu Celtics.
The most intriguing narrative surrounds the potential return of Hub giants Manzini Wanderers. Currently, the draw pits Green Mamba against Red Rhinos; however, Wanderers are on the cusp of a dramatic return to the elite league by reportedly acquiring the top-flight status of the Lubombo-based Red Rhinos. Should the PLE approve this rebranding at their AGM on August 22, the ‘Weslians’ could face Green Mamba in the opening round.

We appreciate the reception we received from both EIPA and 8Bet in fostering a marriage that has sparked life into the game of football in the country.”
Despite the tournament dates clashing with the TotalEnergies CAF preliminary rounds, the PLE has assured stakeholders that Nsingizini and Green Mamba will not be disadvantaged.
