MTN Premier League outfit Green Mamba have received a major boost following the discharge of lethal striker Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa, who has returned home after being hospitalised in Durban, South Africa.
The clinical forward fell ill on the eve of a pre-season friendly match across the border, leading to his emergency admission. The former Sihlangu captain’s condition was severe enough that he collapsed after complaining of severe headaches, forcing him to remain behind for close medical monitoring when the rest of the Inyoka Eluhlazana squad returned home.
Correctional Services Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nthuthuko Dlamini confirmed that the former Mbabane Swallows talisman is back in the country following a significant improvement in his health. “Sikhali has been discharged and is back in the country,” Dlamini said. “He is resting now, and once he has recovered fully, he will join the rest of his teammates.”
Dlamini stressed that the club will not rush the veteran forward back into action, ensuring he is given ample time to rest and fully recover before joining pre-season preparations ahead of their 2026 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
Speaking before his return, the striker’s wife, Swane Ndzinisa, expressed deep gratitude to the Green Mamba leadership and management for their unwavering support and for standing by the family throughout the ordeal.
The harrowing episode inevitably brought back painful memories for local football followers, recalling the striker’s previous career-threatening health battles.
In 2017, Ndzinisa suffered a severe head injury while playing for Mbabane Swallows against Mbabane Highlanders at Somhlolo National Stadium, which required life-saving brain surgery funded by the late Swallows boss Victor Gamedze. He later underwent a four-hour cranioplasty procedure at Manzini Clinic in July 2018.
Defying the odds, Ndzinisa made a remarkable comeback to become one of Eswatini’s most prolific marksmen and lead Green Mamba as captain. While some voices within the football fraternity have quietly suggested the veteran forward consider hanging up his boots once fully recovered, his latest fight has once again united the entire country in prayer.
