Eswatini’s literary landscape is set to welcome a new addition with the launch of ‘The Making of Avela’, a locally produced book that aims to inspire young readers while promoting literacy and meaningful conversations within communities.

The official book launch and signing ceremony will take place on Saturday, September 5 at The Pink Lotus in Mbabane, beginning at 4pm.

Described as the first project of its kind in Eswatini, ‘The Making of Avela’ follows the journey of its central character, Avela, whose story is built around resilience, discipline and the determination to dream beyond life’s challenges. The project seeks to offer readers a story that reflects local experiences while encouraging them to pursue their own purpose.

Beyond its storyline, the initiative has a broader social mission. It aims to improve literacy by making quality, locally relevant books accessible to children and families, nurture a stronger reading culture through relatable characters and strengthen social cohesion by encouraging discussions around shared values in homes, schools and communities.

The project organiser, Avela believes the book represents more than just a publication. He described it as a movement that places Eswatini stories at the forefront, reminding young people that they have the power to shape and write their own futures.

Physical copies of ‘The Making of Avela’ will retail for E279.99 and will be available exclusively from the launch before being rolled out to additional platforms at a later stage. Payments on the day will be strictly cashless, with Visa, Mastercard and Apple Pay accepted. The launch is expected to attract book lovers, educators, parents and supporters of local storytelling as Eswatini celebrates another milestone in its growing creative and publishing industry.
