MBABANE – Eswatini VAR specialist Letticia Viana is once again hoisting the Eswatini flag high.
While Eswatini did not qualify for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which has been played over the past month in Morocco, the nation has been proudly represented by Viana. The tournament concludes tonight, August 16, with the final showdown between Cameroon and Malawi, and the Eswatini match official has been appointed to assist in the VAR team for the fixture.
Viana will serve as the Second Assistant Video Assistant Referee for the title match, working alongside a match official team led by Egyptian referee Shahenda Saad Ali Elmaghrabi. The refereeing line-up features Queency Clodia Victoire of Mauritius and Tunisia’s Houda Afine as assistant referees, Togo’s Vincentia Enyonam Amedome as the fourth official and Tunisia’s Dorsaf Ganouati as the main Video Assistant Referee.
This high-profile assignment caps off another stellar milestone for Viana, who previously officiated as an assistant VAR in the final of the men’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in January 2026—an achievement where she received a gold medal. Her consistent excellence on the continent has also earned her a prestigious appointment to officiate as a video match official at the upcoming FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.
Viana’s trailblazing career highlights include becoming the first female referee to be promoted to the Premier League of Eswatini in 2007 and achieving FIFA-listed status in 2015, alongside previous appearances at multiple WAFCON tournaments and the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in India.
