MBABANE – Nsingizini Hotspurs’ preparations for their CAF Champions League preliminary round first leg against Scottland FC have been handed a major shake-up following a venue switch.
The Zimbabwean champions confirmed on their official Facebook page that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has approved their request to move the encounter from Francistown, Botswana, to Harare’s iconic National Sports Stadium. The stadium recently got CAF approval.
The match will take place on September 6 , which is a date that coincides with Eswatini’s Independence Day.
The venue change alters the logistical landscape for the Eswatini outfit. Nsingizini Hotspurs had already set initial transport arrangements in motion for their loyalists to travel to Botswana, with transport fees set between E900 and 1 300. Following the move to Harare, those travel packages are expected to be revised.
For Scottland FC, the fixture marks a celebrated homecoming. The National Sports Stadium, a 60 000-capacity multi-purpose arena in Harare, stands as the largest stadium in Zimbabwe.
“We now look forward to a grand re-opening of the venue and we bank on Zimbabweans’ support to make it a memorable occasion,” shared Scottland FC in their statement.
While Scottland FC prepare to rally a massive home crowd for the grand re-opening of their flagship arena, Nsingizini Hotspurs, who faced Zimbabwean opposition in Simba Bhora in Botswana last year, will now recalibrate their travel logistics for a tough assignment in Harare on Eswatini’s Independence Day.
