MBABANE – A daunting cross-continental ‘marathon’ covering over 3 500km awaits Green Mamba’s die-hard supporters.
The Inyoka Eluhlazana loyalists are preparing to rally behind their team in Angola for the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary tie against giants Clube Desportivo Primeiro de Agosto.
The Eswatini CAF envoys will first host the Angolan powerhouse in the first leg at Somhlolo National Stadium on September 4, 2026. However, all eyes are already on the gruelling reverse fixture scheduled for September 12, 2026, in Angola, where a mega overland expedition awaits the team’s loyalists.
The Correctional Services outfit, through their official Facebook page, have officially invited interested supporters to register for the road trip at a cost of US$200 (E3 200 in Eswatini currency).
For the brave fans taking up the challenge, the journey by road from Mbabane to Luanda is no small feat. The road trip alone will take more than two days of travel. The most direct and commonly used overland route will see supporters cross through three countries. They are to exit west via the Oshoek/Ngwenya border, traveling west/north-west through Gauteng towards Botswana. They are expected to crossing east to west via Pioneer Gate/Lobatse and heading towards the Mamuno/Trans-Kalahari border. Then journey will be see the supporters head north through Windhoek and Oshakati before crossing into southern Angola via border posts such as Oshikango/Santa Clara or Ruacana. They are then to drive north from the Namibian Border through Lubango and Huambo to reach the final destination, Luanda.
While an alternative route exists traveling north through South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia and into Eastern Angola, it remains far less viable due to difficult road conditions, safety concerns and complex border crossings.
Despite the distance, the Green Mamba faithful are gearing up for the ultimate test of loyalty to back their squad on foreign soil.
