MBABANE- Last night during the Made in Eswatini Awards, multitalented creative Ncwiki Flexiano, Founder of Rugs Eswatini, presented a bespoke, hand-crafted rug to Princess Sakhizwe.
The piece, an exact textural replica of the Made in Eswatini logo, encapsulates the vibrant spirit of a growing movement championing local talent. Established in 2022, Rugs Eswatini is the brainchild of Flexiano, an all-round creative whose repertoire spans graphic design, rapping, hand craftsmanship and entrepreneurship. Flexiano’s philosophy challenges the conventional boundary of home decor, treating floor coverings not merely as accessories, but as storytelling canvases. “A rug can be more than just a home accessory; it can be a piece of art that tells a story and reflects the personality and vision of its owner,” Flexiano notes.
“For this particular piece, we had the pleasure of creating it live at the 2026 Made in Eswatini Consumer Fair , held along Dr Sishayi Road in Mbabane CBD. The idea was to showcase our art in action. Rather than simply displaying a finished rug, we wanted people passing by to experience the actual process of turning yarn and fabric into a finished piece of artwork” , he said. He elaborated that he was waiting for the night of awards to unveil the finished product of the replica
The main focus was on accurately recreating the Made in Eswatini logo in its original colours and exact shape. “ We wanted the final piece to remain immediately recognisable while translating the logo from a conventional graphic into a tactile, handmade work of art. For us, this piece represents exactly what Rugs Eswatini is about, taking an idea, giving it a physical form and using craftsmanship to tell a story” , he added.
